I believe Jeff McClure should be re-elected to his position as PUD commissioner. As an active business owner in Whatcom County who has managed a successful business and also participated actively in the community, I believe Jeff is very qualified for the commissioner role. He is a balanced thinker and someone who considers all the facts before making a decision. He has worked with a number of different businesses and clients over the years, which has allowed him to gain experience in dealing with multiple issues and multiple points of view.
The PUD commissioners provide the leadership that allows the utility district to provide living-wage jobs in Whatcom County. Over the past six years Mr. McClure has provided his expertise to the PUD as a business owner and demonstrated his understanding of complex planning and water rights issues. In a continued role as commissioner, I am sure Jeff would continue to serve the PUD in a thoughtful and responsible way.
Living wage jobs, such as those provided by the industries located at Cherry Point, are vital to the economic health of Whatcom County. The success of ALCOA Intalco Works and BP Cherry Point Refinery are in part attributed to PUD No. 1, which supplies these industries water and power at a fair price.
Jeff McClure has served the PUD well in his tenure as a commissioner, and I urge voters to re-elect him to a second term.
