Public esteem for those serving in public office seldom has been lower. It does not have to be this way. The best place to begin a positive reversal is for us all to vote smarter in local elections. We can elect candidates with proven commitments to our community and solid track records of integrity and competence.
I believe PUD candidate Jeff McClure meets both these tests.
Jeff has participated for years in civic affairs - as a volunteer on boards supporting economic development, the arts and social services in Whatcom County. And he already served with distinction in his first term as PUD commissioner.
Since 1986 Jeff has been a partner in RMC - one of our county's leading architectural firms. He is highly regarded in both the private and public sectors - something few professionals manage. He has accomplished this by delivering high quality services, shooting straight and exercising very good judgment.
Jeff brought these habits to his role as PUD commissioner the past six years. It simply is difficult to imagine anyone better qualified to do a great job in that low profile, but quite important, locally elected position.
For these reasons I will vote with enthusiasm for Jeff McClure for PUD commissioner in the Aug. 5 primary election, and again in the November general election. I urge you to do the same.
