Today I met a person running for Congress, Mr. Ed Moats. I rarely meet politicians, but he came into my work because he wanted to leave some of his campaign literature.
Of course he shook my hand and asked me to vote for him. He wants to represent our needs in Washington, D.C. Wonderful! So I said to him "Sure, but maybe you can address a problem I have with voting in Whatcom County?" (It's not a legal problem, by the way, just procedural.) His response to me was to simply say "I really just came to see if I could drop off some flyers" as he turned away to give the flyers to my manager. He made it very obvious he had no interest in hearing my issue or even trying to provide any solution or advice at all.
So I have to ask, is this really the kind of person we want to represent our issues in Washington, D.C.? How does someone who has no interest in hearing a concern from a legal voting citizen even know what our issues might be?
