I've been watching the discussions concerning our country's constant mass killings. Lots of talk on both sides of the issue, for months, even years. While we debate, discuss and even argue the 2nd Amendment issue, our citizens are dying. I think it's time we set aside our agendas, fears and stubbornness and seriously address this issue.
I am a gun owner, but I don't believe taking away my gun will even remotely help (and not because of the 2nd Amendment). Nor will taking away the target shooter's rifle, or heirloom weapons or the shop owner's pistol. I believe none of these things will help solve the problem. So let's address what will solve it!
Since the perpetrators of these killings have definite mental issues and easy access to automatic weapons, let's start there. How hard would it be to implement effective background checks to detect mental problems? Or, to look at the real need for AK-47 type automatic weapons with 30-plus round clips?
We need to scrutinize these perpetrators and the instruments they use and remove them both from our society. We wouldn't hesitate to remove a terrorist with a bomb, right? How is this different? Both cause overwhelming fear. Both kill innocent people.
America is bleeding, one shooting at a time. Let's ignore the NRA lobbyists and gun manufacturers and do what we know is right, stop the bleeding.
