According to Luanne VanWerven, Washington state regulatory agencies have a stranglehold on our economy and job creators. Her Republican faith that market forces would cause corporate or financial institutions to regulate themselves has proven false to me since at the Reagan administration. I believe her doctrinaire insistence on further state deregulation is a faith statement not a prescription for economic growth or job creation.
If all farmers obeyed the regulations we would not have to worry about manure and pesticide run off in our Whatcom streams and rivers. Salmon would not be threatened by unsafe agricultural practices.
VanWerven believes "No government regulation ever created a job; entrepreneurs create jobs." This statement means to me that state education regulations requiring school attendance do not create jobs; that state speed requirements and DWI regulations do not created police enforcement jobs.
VanWerven claims that "countless" agencies are fostering a hostile and strained relationship with business. She fails to give any specific examples! Was she referring to the bulldozing of wetlands by the GPT coal port project without a permit?
She is opposed to the bloated and inefficient bureaucracy in school districts. Does she support a county school district system like Nevada's? She wants to send more money to the classroom. Does she support a COLA raise for teachers?
