In a recent discussion with an individual applying for U.S. citizenship I began to note yet another of the bizarre examples of the government's futile attempts to make sense of its rules. There are clear requirements for legal status as a citizen or those that go through the process of passing immigrant status and then that of a full citizenship after the swearing-in ceremony. That process has been clearly ignored under the past presidents from Eisenhower to the present incumbent Obama with the result of a number estimated at from 12 million to perhaps as many as 18 million including those that simply overstay their visas and disappear by the inept or non-existent government reckoning. Past attempts to patch the laws or controls that would solve the problem or even moderate it have failed and I believe the present notion of reform is another Orwellian cover for amnesty or just ignoring the present laws. I advised, in all seriousness, that my friend just ignore the procedures, save the costs incurred and apply for refugee status that was successful for both President Obama's aunt and half-brother. She could, with coaching, describe all manner of physical assaults and fears for her safety as well as adopt one of the central American children in the present wave that have come into the country. I have a serious concern that our society is going downhill.
