This recent 4th of July, I've been told was one of the lamest ones experienced by some fellow acquaintances. While I cannot speak for the entire population of Bellingham (or even myself as I was in a completely different area at that time) on how cool or unentertaining the 4th went, I can say a compromise could be made. I first want to point out the fireworks ban does have good intensions. It is in the best interest to old retirees, beloved pets, parents of young children trying to put their kids to bed, and the safety of the unintelligent when they nearly blow off their hands. But instead of just banning the fireworks completely, why not include one place where fireworks are legal. This place would be where hardly anyone resides. On no other time of the year but the 4th of July, would it be open to light off fireworks as you please. It would not be in a particularly dry environment and water access would be easy to find. This place would be a place that is normally open to the general public year long, so it would not be too hard to reach. People would be also advised to bring earplugs, as it might be noisy. And lastly, everything would end on the dot of midnight. So why not? It would be easy to do and I already think of a place, which is Cornwall Park.
