Do you have something to say? If you were given a weekly newspaper column, what would you write about? What portion of the South Sound community would your voice represent?
Are you a neighborhood activist, a student, a homemaker or a state worker? Do you have knowledge and/or passion for education, the environment, spiritual life or health care? Are you conservative or liberal, or somewhere in the middle?
We want to hear from all of you.
The Olympian’s 2014 Board of Contributors is nearing the end of its 12-month term. That means we are looking for five or six local writers to form the 2015 board, whose members will take turns writing a weekly column.
Never miss a local story.
Each contributor will write between eight and 10 columns during the year.
Next year’s writers will form the 12th Board of Contributors, which we first launched in 2004.
By inviting local writers onto our pages every Monday, The Olympian hopes to bring fresh South Sound voices into the community conversation.
The best contributors focus their writing on local issues, or how local events fit into the national and international context, and offer solutions to problems facing the community and the region.
The Olympian will select the 2015 Board of Contributors for the broadest and most diverse representation of our community from the applications we receive.
We invite people to send us a self-nomination today. There’s no form to fill out, just a simple application process.
Here’s how to apply:
• Send The Olympian a cover letter with information about your ethnic and educational background. Tell us why you want to write a newspaper column. Include any particular area of expertise or passion, your political philosophy and mention any writing experience.
• Provide two writing samples of no less than 600 words on current topics.
• Send your self-nomination letter and samples to: Board of Contributors, The Olympian, 111 Bethel St. N.E., Olympia, WA 98506. Or you can send them electronically to: firstname.lastname@example.org, putting “Board of Contributors” into the subject line.
• The Olympian will accept applications until 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12.
We look forward to reading what you have to say.
