BELLINGHAM - Vandals smashed car windows and a mailbox in an early morning spree that resulted in thousands of dollars of damage Monday, June 22.
The Bellingham Police Department got calls about the destruction between about 2 and 3 a.m., said spokesman Mark Young. It started with a smashed mailbox on Pinewood Avenue, followed by a smashed car window on Lynn Street, two smashed windshields on Virginia Street, one on Ellis Street and another broken car window on Kentucky Street.
The damage was done from a moving vehicle, which means there was a driver and at least one passenger, Young said. They used a bat or stick while passing by.
Though not all of the victims have called in with damage estimates, Young thought the damage would be in the thousands of dollars, which would make the crimes a felony.
Anyone with similar damage or anyone who sees a suspicious car in their neighborhood should call the Bellingham Police Department at 778-8800.
