BELLINGHAM — Two teenage boys were assaulted in an apparent gang-related incident late Wednesday, June 17 outside of a house in the 4000 block of Eliza Avenue, said Mark Young, public information officer for the Bellingham Police Department.

Rival gang members drove to the house, just northwest of Bellis Fair mall, Wednesday evening and confronted the two boys, Young said.

During the assault, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the abdomen, requiring emergency medical treatment. The other victim, a 15-year-old, received injuries to his face and head, allegedly caused by brass knuckles, Young said.

Two primary suspects were identified and arrested, he said. Miguel E. Alcarez, 18, has been booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The second suspect, a juvenile, was booked into Whatcom County Juvenile Detention on suspicion of first-degree assault.
