Everson teen dies in rollover crash west of Deming

A 17-year-old Everson girl died Friday afternoon, Nov. 6, after being pinned underneath an SUV following a rollover crash west of Deming.

Kasey L. Eggleston was driving eastbound in a 1995 Toyota 4Runner in the 4700 block of Deming Road about 3:45 p.m. when the car went off the road, struck some rocks and rolled, said Trooper Keith Leary of the Washington State Patrol.

Eggleston appeared to be ejected after the car rolled and ended up pinned underneath it, Leary said. She died at the scene.

Carley Morris, 16, of Bellingham was in the passenger seat and suffered minor cuts to her knees and hands, Leary said. She was transported to St. Joseph Hospital.

Morris told troopers the girls were distracted before the crash by a 14-month-old black Labrador in the back seat, Leary said. The dog ran off after the crash.

Morris had markings consistent with wearing a seat belt during the crash, Leary said. Troopers were uncertain if Eggleston was wearing one.
