Three people were injured and one of them was ejected from a car following a collision near the intersection of James Street Road and Bakerview Road Thursday night, Oct. 29.
The three injured people were in a white car that was traveling fast while eastbound on Bakerview Road, said Sgt. Jason Monson of the Bellingham Police Department.
Near the road’s intersection with James Street Road, the car moved into an oncoming lane of traffic to pass slower drivers, Monson said.
The car then hit the left side of a pickup truck head on, veered back into the eastbound lanes and crashed into the back of a minivan, said Bellingham resident Laura Johnson, who was driving home from church and witnessed the crash.
The crash propelled the minivan off the road and into some trees, but no one inside was injured, Monson said.
No one inside the truck was injured either, Monson said. A teenage girl was ejected from the white car, Johnson said.
The girl was complaining of paralysis but was able to move her fingers and toes when a paramedic asked her to, Johnson said.
“That white car was traveling at a rate of speed that was incomprehensible,” Johnson said. “It was like a bullet. It was so fast, and then it happened right in front of me.”
Monson said another person inside the white car suffered a broken wrist, but did not have further details. He did not provide the identities of the injured patients. Bakerview was blocked in both directions at 7:30 p.m. while officers investigated.
