Skagit River bridge collapse

Workers look over a collapsed portion of the Interstate 5 bridge as a bucket lift is positioned at the Skagit River Friday, May 24, 2013, in Mount Vernon, Wash. A truck carrying an oversize load struck the four-lane bridge on the major thoroughfare between Seattle and Canada, sending a section of the span and two vehicles into the Skagit River below Thursday evening. All three occupants suffered only minor injuries.

The Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River at Mount Vernon collapsed Thursday evening, May 23, 2013, dumping vehicles and people into the water.

Firefighters have not determined, for certain, what sparked a fire Thursday night, May 16, at a derelict house on Alabama Street. Firefighters got a call at 9 p.m. reporting smoke and flames at a familiar address, 2302 Alabama St. The home had been badly damaged in a fire in late 2010.
