BELLINGHAM - Police didn't release any new information Tuesday, Aug. 5, about the suspicious death of a woman in the basement apartment of a south Bellingham home.
The woman, believed to be the 59-year-old renter of the apartment in the 600 block of 12th Street, was found dead Sunday morning when a coworker went to check on her after she missed work.
Police said Monday that they were not ruling out the possibility of an acquaintance being involved in the woman's death.
"Our detectives have been working extremely hard on developing leads and then following out each one to determine who is responsible for this and hopefully why this happened," police spokesman Bob Vander Yacht wrote in an email Tuesday.
An autopsy took place Tuesday afternoon, and that should help clear up when and how the woman died. The results of the autopsy weren't available Tuesday, but police expected to release the woman's name on Wednesday.
