BELLINGHAM - A man who shot a wedding guest at an after-party in August 2013 has been sentenced to 39 months in prison.
Serapio Santos-Garcia pleaded guilty to second-degree and third-degree assault on June 30. Whatcom County Superior Court Judge Charles Snyder sentenced him last week to three months for the first count and 39 months for the latter. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Santos-Garcia was issued a no-contact order for Rene Solano-Garcia, the man he shot.
On Aug 16, 2013, Santos-Garcia got into an argument with Solano-Garcia about lifting weights while at a wedding after-party. Santos-Garcia went to a car in the 4500 block of Meridian Street, grabbed a handgun from inside and fired one round at the victim, said Bellingham Police Sgt. Shawn Aiumu. The bullet grazed Solano-Garcia's head.
Santos-Garcia fled but was arrested later that night by Ferndale police.
