Andrian Mondragon, 30, of Ferndale was charged with vehicular homicide, attempting to elude police and hit and run in connection with an Aug. 3 chase along Birch Bay-Lynden Road that ended in a rollover crash that killed his father, Ruben Mondragon-Gutierrez, 54.
A brush fire east of Sumas burned about 10 acres on the side of Vedder Mountain Thursday afternoon, Aug. 25. Though it’s too early to determine a cause, officials suspect a tree that fell on a power line near the intersection of Reese Hill and Frost roads may have started the fire.

Gaspar Ortiz-Ortiz, 36, is suspected of taking photos or video up a teenager’s skirt in public on Saturday morning, Aug. 13. He was jailed soon after a witness accused him on the spot of taking the pictures.
