A Blaine construction company has begun work on two major projects outside of Whatcom County.
Colacurcio Brothers Construction started work this week on a new elementary school in Mukilteo School District. The $23.4 million project is expected to continue through next summer and, at its peak, have about 70 people working on site, said Manley McIntyre, project manager for Colacurcio.
The Lake Stickney elementary school in Lynnwood will have about 77,000 square feet of space and several energy-conserving features, including a geothermal ground-loop heat-pump and structural insulated panels in the roof.
Colacurcio is also working on renovating two park-and-ride areas in Lynnwood. Work on the $2.2 million project should continue into the fall, according to the company.

Colacurcio Brothers is at 3287 H St. Road.
