Motorists will want to steer clear of Cornwall Avenue Friday evening, May 15, when the Junior Ski to Sea Parade rolls down the road.
The parade will kick off two weeks of Ski to Sea festivities.
The junior parade begins at 6 p.m. at Cornwall Avenue and Kearney Street, continues down Cornwall and ends at Railroad Avenue and Champion Street.
Participants line up at 4:15 p.m. Judging starts at 4:30. The deadline to enter the parade has passed.
Judges selected by the parade committee will give out awards for best pet, best large float, best small float, best group, best decorated bike, best novelty, best drill group, four judges’ awards, the top three bands, and a grand prize.
The Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce & Industry, which coordinates Junior Ski to Sea, reminds parade participants that they can’t pass out or throw candy or other materials along the line of marchers in the parade. Materials can be handed out only on the sidewalk behind the crowd. Alcohol also is banned.
