Mt. Baker Ski Area announced it will reopen Thursday, April 16, through the weekend following some late-season snowfall.
Around 20 inches of snow has fallen since the weekend, said Gwyn Howat, the ski area’s vice president of operations. As of Tuesday afternoon, the base was 33 inches at Heather Meadows and 65 inches at Pan Dome.
The ski area plans to open Thursday through Sunday, April 19 at Heather Meadows. Ticket rates will be reduced, though the pricing has not yet been set. Three chairlifts will be open and, depending on daytime temperatures, more will open over the weekend, Howat said.
Ski representatives believe the weather will be sunny through the weekend. They will assess conditions Friday afternoon for the possibility of adding a Shuksan arm to the weekend operations, the ski area’s website says.
Never miss a local story.
“It could make for a great weekend for people to come enjoy the fresh snowfall and yet one more ski day,” Howat said.
Prior to the recent snowfall, the ski area was down to about 15-20 inches of snow at the base, Howat said. It had been closed since March 8 due to the low snowpack.
“We’re grateful for, hopefully, the last little gasp of winter,” Howat said.
