Mayor Gary Jensen has announced he will not seek re-election this year and has instead filed to run for Port of Bellingham commissioner.
In an email Monday, Jan. 12, Jensen said he enjoyed the past seven years in office but wanted to announce early he would not run again so other people who might be interested would have plenty of time to prepare.
“I’m very positive that (Ferndale’s) bright future will be well served by a new citizen or citizens stepping forward to serve,” Jensen wrote.
Jensen was elected Ferndale mayor in 2007 and again in 2011.
Never miss a local story.
In the email notice, Jensen also announced he had filed to run for the third district Port Commission seat that current commissioner Jim Jorgensen announced he will vacate at the end of the year.
