BELLINGHAM - Overnight construction on northbound Interstate 5 starting Monday, Aug. 4, will close a lane across the Squalicum Creek bridge and the entire Sunset Drive northbound on-ramp.
At 9 p.m. Monday, work crews will grind and repave the left lane of northbound I-5 on the bridge; the lane will be closed. Work is scheduled to be complete by 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday, crews will grind and repave the right lane, ending at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The bridge has limited shoulder width, so no oversized loads will be allowed across it from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night of the work.
The Sunset Drive northbound on-ramp will be closed during these times. Drivers are advised to use the Iowa Street northbound on-ramp instead.
The northbound I-5 Squalicum Creek Bridge deck has cracks, ruts and potholes and needs to be replaced, according to the DOT.
