BELLINGHAM - General Motors vehicles have a new home in Bellingham.
The Dewey Griffin dealership has sold its General Motors franchise to Chevrolet Cadillac of Bellingham at 3891 Northwest Ave.
The deal closed Monday, July 28, and GM cars and parts were being moved to the Northwest Avenue dealership, said Jeffrey Watson, general manager of Chevrolet Cadillac.
The sale includes the Buick division of the franchise, so the new name will be Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac of Bellingham. The sale included parts and repair equipment, so the service department can start handling warranty repairs, maintenance and service.
"It's a good fit for us," Watson said. "It will be nice for customers to have all of (these vehicle models) in one spot."
In a written statement to customers, the Dewey Griffin dealership said the decision was not made easily, but was one they believe will benefit customers because they can now offer more selection of the Subaru brand. Dewey Griffin is at 1800 Iowa St.
"We're confident this decision is the correct one to make for our dealership and our customers," the statement said. "We're looking forward to continuing our long-standing commitment to our community and to you, our customer."
The Northwest Avenue dealership has several GM models now and is working with GM to bring in more. After remodeling the facility a couple years ago, the dealership has more room to handle the additional vehicles. It creates a good situation for customers who want to compare different trucks, for example, or a Cadillac to a Buick.
