Food, clothing and money to help people affected by the Carlton Complex fires are being collected Sunday, July 27, by the Bellingham Trail Running Club.
People can bring lightly used clothing, nonperishable food or checks to the Chuckanut Mountain Marathon and Half at Larrabee State Park from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Make checks payble to the Okanogan County Community Action Council (OCCAC will do) and put "fire victim assistance" on the subject line.
The club plans to deliver the donations Monday. You don't need to be a marathon participant to donate.
People also can donate online at bellinghamtrail.com, and can mail a check to the OCCAC at P.O. Box 1067, Okanogan, WA 98840. The council says all proceeds will benefit fire victims; no administrative expenses will be deducted by the organization.
