BELLINGHAM - Puget Sound Energy customers should be wary of suspicious calls as a scammer posing as a PSE employee is attempting to dupe victims.
The scammer, who was calling from Venezuela, threatened several Bellingham customers that their services would be turned off if they did not forward money into a phony account, according to Bellingham Police Lt. Robert Vander Yacht.
All the cases reported to the Bellingham Police Department were unsuccessful in scamming customers out of money.
Puget Sound Energy tweeted a reminder to customers that the utility issues several notices to customers before terminating service.
PSE requested that anyone receiving suspicious calls should contact local law enforcement or the company at 1-888-225-5773.
