LUMMI RESERVATION — A Ferndale teenager was run over and killed when he fell from the bed of a pickup truck Wednesday afternoon, July 16, on the Lummi Reservation.
Four people were seated in the front of the gray '94 extended-cab Ford F-150 — two in the front seats, two in the rear of the cab — when the right-rear passenger, Isaac O. Misanes, 18, somehow got into the bed of the pickup, possibly by crawling through the back window of the moving truck, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis.
Just after the southbound Ford passed Cagey Road at 4:21 p.m., Misanes fell from the truck bed and onto Lummi Shore Drive. A back tire on the driver's side ran over him. First-responders tried CPR, but Misanes died at the scene.
The driver, Brandon J. Dennis, 25, of Bellingham, isn't suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Lummi Nation police and state troopers continued to investigate how Misanes fell from the truck. As of Wednesday evening, detectives still needed to interview the other two passengers: a 22-year-old Bellingham man in the front seat and a 27-year-old Ferndale man in the back left seat, Francis said.
