EVERSON - Café 544 is expected to reopen for normal service hours Thursday, July 17, after a small kitchen fire Monday.
The fire started Monday night just before closing due to a faulty shut-off of a fryer, said owner Christine Hogan.
An Everson police officer was the first to respond and put out the fire with an extinguisher, according to Chief Mel Blankers of Whatcom County Fire District 1.
Customers and employees of Café 544, at 302 E. Main St., were not injured. The building sustained no damage, according to Hogan and Blankers.
The restaurant has been closed to clean up after the fire, and Hogan hopes to be ready to open it Thursday morning.
