With the Fourth of July falling on a Friday this year, most government offices and business will close for the day. Most larger retail stores and restaurants will be open that day, though many smaller operations will be closed. Here is a list of some key places and their status on Friday. When in doubt, call ahead.
Whatcom County offices: Closed.
Bellingham city offices: Closed.
Whatcom County library branches, bookmobile: Closed Friday, though Friends of the Blaine Library is holding a book sale during Blaine's Independence Day celebration.
Bellingham Public Library: Closed.
Bellingham parking meters: Not enforced.
U.S. Postal Service: Closed, no mail delivery.
Garbage: SSC and Nooksack Valley Disposal will pick up trash on regularly scheduled routes. Trucks might be earlier than normal so put out trash the night before.
Whatcom Transportation Authority buses: No buses running Friday.
The Bellingham Herald: Offices closed but regular newspaper delivery. Customer Service will be available at 360-676-2660 from 6:30 until 9 a.m. for delivery issues.
YMCA: All locations will be closed except for the Sudden Valley YMCA, which is open from noon to 6 p.m. Friday.
Arne Hanna Aquatic Center: Closed.
Whatcom Museum: Closed.
Grocery stores: Most have regular hours. Exceptions: Trader Joe's will close at 5 p.m.; The Community Food Co-op locations will close at 8 p.m..
Bellis Fair: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some stores with outside entrances will be open longer hours.
Regal Barkley Village Cinema, Pickford Film Center, The Limelight: Open.
Henderson Books: Open regular hours.
Whatcom Community College: Closed.
Western Washington University: Closed.
Bellingham Technical College: Closed.
Northwest Indian College: Closed.
