Should Whatcom Transportation Authority spend money to have its meetings filmed and broadcast on BTV10?
The WTA board on Thursday, Sept. 15, will decide whether it wants to pay to have meetings filmed; if board members do, they’ll then decide whether they want to hold meetings in Bellingham City Council Chambers, which is equipped with multiple cameras, or whether they want to hire a private company to record the meetings in County Council Chambers, where meetings are currently held.
Staff estimates that costs could range from $3,462 to $8,860 annually.
On Thursday, Sept. 8, during a meeting of the board's executive committee, some board members said they supported spending the money to increase transparency and public awareness of how the board operates. Others said the meetings are already public and they're hesitant to add costs.
