BELLINGHAM - The Opportunity Council has bought the building at 1419 Cornwall Ave. for $1.7 million and will move its administrative offices there.
The sale of the 15,848-square-foot space closed July 28. Bellingham developers Bob Hall and David Johnston were the sellers.
The building in Bellingham once housed Northwest Computer as well as EXIT Realty Associates.
Dave Finet, executive director of the Opportunity Council, said the nonprofit's administrative offices will move from its leased space at 1307 Cornwall Ave. into the new building.
"In the end it will be some cost savings for us in owning versus leasing," Finet said.
The move should be completed by Aug. 25.
Finet said the new building will provide needed space and give the organization room to grow.
Opportunity Council also wants to sublet its offices at 1322 N. State St. in Bellingham.
If the sublet occurs, the organization will move the Community Energy Challenge from there to the new building and the weatherization program from there to its Building Performance Center on Redwood Avenue.
"It is an effort to consolidate and be more efficient in our space," Finet said.
Meanwhile, the services offered by the Opportunity Council at 1111 Cornwall Ave. will remain at that location.
