Except for a one-month jump in October, the number of bankruptcy filings have remained at a low level throughout the second half of 2014, according to our monthly look at Whatcom County's economy.
Also, the local unemployment rate uncharacteristically rose in October; typically the month of October has the lowest rate of the year. State officials noted that the rise statewide was because more people are entering the workforce, possibly a sign that discouraged workers are looking for work again.
