What a difference a year - and a ridge of high pressure over the Pacific Northwest - makes.
On Feb. 24, 2014, City of Bellingham officials issued this press release with the headline "Area residents urged to be cautious during severe weather."
The city was snowed under after a Sunday, Feb. 23 storm dumped 4 to 6 inches and temperatures dropped into the 20s. County and municipal work crews sanded roads, cleared dozens of downed trees and reported cars and trucks in ditches. Schools were closed the next day and kids and parents alike took advantage of the day off by building snowmen and sledding.

A city program to collected unused medicine has collected more than 8,000 pounds of expired or unused drugs since it began in 2010, Bellingham officials said Thursday, Feb. 12.
