Youd think if someone was looking for hipsters in Whatcom County, theyd start at a coffeeshop in Fairhaven or maybe a brewpub near downtown Bellingham, searching out people wearing those thick-framed glasses and vintage combat boots and packing a yoga mat.
But the data experts at FindTheHome.com discovered something else - you have to take a ferry to get there.
FindTheHome crunched the numbers in order to find out which Whatcom County zip codes are the most hipster. To do this, they created their own Hipster Score, which is a combination of these factors: a majority of college-educated residents (bachelors degree or higher), a high percentage of residents between the ages of 20 and 34, and a large amount of cafés and yoga studios (calculated per 10,000 people).
