Guide Meridian

Residential development has kept pace, with new apartments and condominiums, and several housing developments in the Cordata area for retired and elderly people.

Lobbying by residents recently resulted in the city’s acquisition of 20 acres for a park between Meadowbrook Court and Horton Road.

HISTORY

In 1967, legislators passed a law creating community college districts. Three years later, Whatcom Community College opened, holding classes in empty offices, grocery stores, high schools and rooms at the YMCA.

Today, more than 7,000 students study at the campus on West Kellogg Road.

Alderwood Elementary, Birchwood Elementary, Sunnyland Elementary, Shuksan Middle, Squalicum High, Irene Reither Primary, Ten Mile Creek Elementary, Meridian Middle, Meridian High, Whatcom Community College.

Bellingham School District students will attend Aldrich Elementary in fall 2009.
