Western Washington University distance runner Jordan Welling and steeplechaser Eric Brill have been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II Men's Track & Field All-Academic Team announced today.
Welling, a sophomore from Burlington, is a manufacturing and supply chain management major maintaining a 3.60 grade point average (4.0 scale). He also was named a first-team College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine College Division District 8 and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Star in both track and field and cross country.
Welling placed ninth in the 5,000 meters at the national indoor track championships, while setting school records in the 3,000 (8:19.80) and 5,000 (14:21.30). He finished 12th in the 10,000 at the national outdoor meet, establishing school records in the 5,000 (14:16.90) and 10,000 (30:02.33).
Brill is a biology major maintaining a 3.84 grade point average (4.0 scale). He had a provisional qualifying time of 9:24.61 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. That was the third-fastest clocking posted in the GNAC last spring.
A total of 236 student-athletes representing 56 NCAA II colleges and universities made up this season's honorees.
