Western Washington University softball coach Lonnie Hicks announced on Wednesday, June 10, that catcher Jackie Rothenberger of the White Rock Renegades and Team British Columbia has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Vikings beginning this fall.

"Jackie is a plus defender at a premium defensive position," said Hicks in a release. "She works well with pitchers and is a terrific receiver with a strong and accurate arm."

Rothenberger hit .372 (45 for 121) for the Renegades in 2008, having a .441 on-base percentage with six doubles, five home runs and 30 runs batted in.

A dual citizen and a native of Coquitlam, B.C., Rothenberger was invited to tryout for the Canadian Junior National team in 2006 and was the first-string catcher for Team British Columbia from 2007 to 2009.
