COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Orcas take season opener in straight sets

The Whatcom Community College volleyball team, coming off a first-place finish in the Centralia Crossover tournament last week, defeated Olympic College in straight sets on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The final three-set game score was 25-9, 25-10, 25-16.

Sabrina Schwindler had a team-high 12 kills and .500 hitting average for the Orcas. Sarah Cicchitti had nine kills and Katie Cowan added 28 assists.

"It was our regular season opener so the girls were fired up to play," Whatcom coach Jeff McDonald said in a phone interview. "It was a pretty big margin to win by and we played tough."
