A Western Washington University student reported being robbed at gunpoint in the Sehome Arboretum near campus Thursday, Oct. 15.

The 20-year-old man called police at 4:47 p.m. and said he was walking toward campus on a trail behind the Edens Hall dormitory when two men in front of him turned and brandished a knife and a handgun, said Mark Young, a spokesman for the Bellingham Police Department.

The men grabbed the student's backpack and iPod before fleeing into the arboretum. The student was not injured and called police from his cell phone, Young said.

University and Bellingham police officers and a police dog responded to the area but could not locate the suspects, Young said.

The suspects are described as white, in their 20s, standing 5-foot-10 and wearing dark hooded sweatshirts with light-colored bandanas over their faces, Young said.

Authorities say anyone one with information about the incident should call 911.
