Enduro of Subdued Excitement, May 4: The race offers four stages of mountain biking, with about 4,000 feet of descent. Overall course is about 20 miles. Details: wmbcmtb.org.

Ski to Sea, May 24: The granddaddy of Whatcom races has seven legs — cross-country skiing, downhill skiing or snowboarding, running, biking, canoeing, cross county/mountain biking, and sea kayaking — stretching from Mt. Baker Ski Area to Fairhaven. Details: skitosea.com.
Lake Whatcom Classic, May 2: Paddlers start at Bloedel Donovan Park, continue to Reveille Island, then return to the park. The short course starts at the park, turns at the second southern point, then returns. Details: Soundrowers.org.
Fragrance Lake Half Marathon, 10k and Kids’ Race, Feb. 21: Runners go past Fragrance Lake and along the Rock Trail for a race with plenty of vertical climb. Details: bellinghamtrail.com.
Padden Mudfest, March 8: The six-mile race follows trails in Lake Padden Park, with muddy conditions and challenging hills. Details: gbrc.net.
Stewart Mountain Half Marathon and Kids’ Race, March 14: Race starts at North Lake Whatcom trailhead and climbs Stewart Mountain before a descent with views of Lake Whatcom and Bellingham. Details: bellinghamtrail.com.
Runnin’ O’ the Green, March 14: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a 5k walk/run and 8k run downtown. Details: Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department at cob.org.
Chuckanut 50k Trail Run, March 21. The first and last 10k follow the smooth Interurban Trail, but the middle 30k climb, traverse and descend Chuckanut Mountain Ridge. Details: chuckanut50krace.com.
Birch Bay Road Race, March 28: The event with 5k, 15k and 30k options features a scenic run along the shores of Birch Bay, starting and ending at Birch Bay State Park. Details: birchbayroadrace.com.
Run for the Honeywagon, April 4: Kids’ half-mile fun run, 4-mile walk/run and half-marathon walk/run starts at Nooksack Valley Middle School, Everson. Details: gbrc.net.
Haggen to Haggen 5K Race and Walk, May 2: Runners start at the Sehome Village Haggen and finish at the Meridian Haggen. Details: gbrc.net
