Newlyweds should plan ahead to reduce the risk of returning from their honeymoon with a serious illness or a higher risk of birth defects, or the nightmare of a terrorist attack while there. Couples planning to visit a foreign country or parts of the United States should check websites from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the CIA and the U.S. State Department to learn about the Zika virus carried by mosquitoes, other diseases, and the potential for violence and political unrest.
