Wants local efforts to produce oil alternative

The price escalation of petroleum products should be no surprise to any of us. More oil won’t solve the needs of the U.S.
Strong leadership in alternative forms of energy for transportation and electricity generation are in the best interest of all of us, even more so for our younger generation.
Whatcom County could, if we have the will, potentially be a leader in applying alternative forms of energy, such as wind power on Stuart Mountain, which sits next to transmission lines already in place.
Setting aside transportation corridors on Highway 99 between Bellingham and Blaine for mass transit and from Sunset Drive up Hannegan Road to Laurel, Lynden and Sumas would reduce congestion and costs before the opportunity becomes non-viable.
The methane generators here have demonstrated innovation and the will. Why not look at alternative forms in earnest?
Large-scale alternative sources of energy mixes are in the best interest. Windmill electric generation may be a net producer and self sustaining for Whatcom County, except the smelter and refineries.
Even using wind generation next to Squalicum High School for the school district might make the school self-sustaining of electricity.
Why not try? Plant the seed in our leaders both public and private.
