I believe The Bellingham Herald painted an unbalanced portrait of a valued community member in the article "State health officials put Bellingham surgeon on probation" (July 28, 2008).

Dr. Joost Knops is a talented, caring, and thoughtful physician. The 2003 accident described in the article was very unfortunate, but it is a single episode in an otherwise outstanding career. Knops has made innumerable contributions to our community during the last 14 years. Thousands of Whatcom county families have found relief and comfort in his care.

When we focus only on the negative, we lose the opportunity to benefit from all the good a person has to offer.
