Calls for halt to all breeding of pit bulls

Regarding the recent article on pit bulls: I was incensed that pit bull lovers would make light of the vicious nature of "high profile pit bull attacks," while playing up the fact that cockers bite more people - it's a ridiculous point.

When has a cocker spaniel attack ever caused maiming injuries or death? A cocker spaniel is to a pit bull as a BB gun is to a military assault rifle.

Pit bulls, as a breed, may not be inherently evil, but a number of people who keep these dogs are not society's most upstanding citizens. There is a reason that drug dealers, etc. find pit bulls good security aides, and these dogs are not schooled to be passive, friendly pups.

My thought is that all pit bulls should be neutered and the breed allowed to go out of existence. Or, all these dogs should be registered as a potentially deadly weapon, which they are; and those wishing to keep said breed required to obtain a permit similar to a weapons permit - felons need not apply.

My concern is for public safety, not the "rights" of a few dog lovers who embrace this breed with special fighting abilities.
