I live near Elizabeth Park and I am so frustrated by irresponsible dog owners who let their dogs run loose in the park. Elizabeth Park is not an off-leash park!

I have asked some of these owners why they let their dogs loose and I have been told that “Everyone else does it so I can, too,” “It’s none of your business what I let my dog do,” and “There are no signs up.”

I called animal control, where someone told me to call 911 if I see a dog running loose. Why can’t animal control just patrol this park and write tickets to the offending dog owners? Why can’t the Bellingham Parks Department install signs saying dogs must be leashed at all times?

It’s summer now and a lot of people use this park. So, dog owners, please obey the law and keep your dogs leashed at all times.
