I find it quite sad that a foreign army can invade a territory and claim it against the will of the native people.
I am of course referring to the Kingdom of Hawaii. In 1893 the U.S. Marines were called in by American business leaders to give a show of force to the Hawaiian government.
They surrounded the Hawaiian government offices and disrupted the assembly. No blood was shed, but the message to Hawaiians was clear — “Give in!”
The Native Hawaiians never ceded their land and never signed a treaty. The U.S. military and American business leaders just marched in and assimilated.
China has taken a page out of America’s book.
China is now doing about the same thing to Tibetans that the U.S. did to Native Hawaiians.
The U.S. really should not complain about China’s actions until the U.S. rights all the disgraceful wrongs it did against Hawaiian people.
Free Tibet? Yes. Certainly. But free Hawaii first.
