I am writing in response to the cartoon printed in the Sunday, June 28, edition of The Bellingham Herald. Regardless of one's personal feelings about Michael Jackson, someone has died and loved ones are grieving.
We live in a country where one is innocent until proven guilty. And even if Jackson committed some of the acts he has been accused of, it is very cruel and in very poor taste to imply that this is his legacy.
Jackson was the "King of Pop" and worked hard to earn that status, all the while bringing enjoyment to the world. But he was also a person, a little boy and a man. It is no secret the kind of childhood he endured (a life very few of us, thankfully, can imagine) and now, when he is finally at peace, we should choose compassion in remembering and honoring him. If not for him and his family, at least for ourselves.
