I recently heard about the idea that the city of Bellingham would become a safe-haven for AWOL soldiers. I am a soldier, myself, and I honestly believe that idea is not right.

If someone doesn't want to go to war, then don't join the military in a time of war. You know you're going to go at some point in time if we're in the middle of a war, so just don't join. Don't be a coward about it and run from the commitment you made. Stand up proud to fight for your country.

I am a single mom and I am in the reserves. If my name gets called, I'm going. I don't have a choice, and I don't think would be right for Bellingham to offer the choice. If you're going to sign on the line, then you better stick to what you signed up for. I'm sorry if I'm coming off a little harsh, but it needs to be said.
