Perhaps a recent letter writer needs an education on the American flag.

June 14 is Flag Day and was first observed in 1877 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the selection of the flag. On May 30, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation establishing Flag Day as an annual national celebration.

Those of us who were standing on the overpass waving our flags were doing so to show our respect of and honor for our American flag. It seems as though we are in the minority of those in the area who care enough to take the time to celebrate our flag: long may it wave over this land.

TEA parties started April 15, 2009, and I do not believe that there were any signs on those bridges about TEA Parties, just people, young old, waving flags.
