I would like to respond to the letter "College students balking at tough economy," because, in part, I share uneasiness about my ability to find a job and be successful after college. But I also feel that things will only get better from now.
I agree that seeing the percentage of employers saying they intended to hire college grads drop from 79 to 43 percent is quite a blow, but I don't think its going to continue to drop. In 2007, the recession hadn't hit yet, so of course the percentage of employers intending to hire was greater.
We are still in the first year of the recession, which means this is going to be the low point between our economy being stable in 2007 and it becoming stable again whenever that may be. With improvements such as the government stimulus plan, which is working to provide good jobs for Americans, this number can only go up.
I am also in the class of 2011 and I believe that by that time things will have improved because it is such a big issue that it will have to be taken care of. The economy may not be thriving, but I'm sure it will at least be better.
