Several issues surround the pending sale of our electric utility, Puget Sound Energy, to Macquarie Group, an Australian consortium.
First, might the sizeable debt which Macquarie would have to incur in order to acquire PSE mean less-reliable and less-affordable service?
Second, might the change to a privately held corporation mean less transparency and oversight? Third, would a foreign corporation care about developing wind or solar power?
Fourth, would profit motives take precedence over infrastructure maintenance?
Both the public counsel from the state Attorney General’s Office and the attorneys from the Utilities and Transportation Commission have determined that such a sale would not be in the best interest of PSE customers.
However, the Utilities Commission needs to hear from all of us that do not want a foreign corporation to own our supplier of electrical power before July 31.
Write, phone or email the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to stop the foreign takeover.
