What do the feds know that local people don’t about Iran and the complex Middle East and how to cope with the demonstrable threats of militant Islam? Answer: A lot!
The Bellingham City Council is getting carried away with delusions of their importance. How naive and immature of local board members to think they can, or even should, have a voice in determining America’s defense strategies. What’s worse, they are voicing an opinion that is theirs and arguably doesn’t represent me or the citizens they are supposed to represent.
If they believe their initiative will constructively influence national defense planning, then they should at least do it with a tinge of credibility. They have the resources at their disposal to conduct a simple “scientific” survey by random and “representative” sampling, and then passing the results on to our local reps. Even if the majority of survey respondents agreed with their position, such results would at least show a range of opinions that would be more convincing than the sham unanimity of a Bellingham City Council vote.
