I believe the attempt by the Lummi Nation to get money from Fairhaven Shipyards is outrageous. This drydock could in no way have a negative impact equal to $40,000 per use.
Extortion is how I would classify their attempt to dislocate the Lummi Island ferry.
These applications of treaty rights only anger the greater community and, I believe, in no way improve the water quality in the bay. The Whatcom community gets behind any righteous application of treaty rights but I hope will resist outright extortion.
